Detection

From Open Perpetuum

Detection and masking define how far you can see other players and NPCs. The higher your detection is - the further you can see, generally. Masking is in reverse - higher masking means other players nedd either higher detection or simply move closer to see you.

Basic formula for your detection range is (1000 m / your enemy's masking value) * your detection value

Here's an example. If 2 bots have detection of 100 and masking of 200, they will see each other from around 500 meters.

But if instead bot B has detection of 100 and masking of 100, it would be visible to bot A from 1000 meters, while bot A will only be noticed by bot B from 500 meters.

There is also equipment that affects your or other players' detection and masking stats.

Signal detector

Detector modules enhance the default signal detection value of the robot. An expanded detection capability will help your robot to detect other robots from a greater distance.

Installed in the Head slots

A device that increases your detection while decreasing your masking for a short period of time.

Signal masker

In-game description: Maskers help you to hide your robots by generating and emitting noise to the surrounding area. The module actually enhances the default masking value of your robot by a certain percentage.

Installed in the Head slots

A device that increases your masking, consuming energy proportionally to your bots' surface size. To get the real energy use, multiply your robots' surface size by the accumulator use of the masker.

Target marker

A head slot device that dramatically decreases your target's masking. Consumes a lot of energy, but can either negate a masker, or make robot visible from a very far distance away.
