The facility

In Perpetuum, creating an item is a circular process, requiring a huge investment of both time and stock. Three facilities, the Reverse engineering, the Factory, and the Prototype facility are strongly connected. You also need to get the basic knowledge of how an item is built up. The help chapter of your knowledge base clearly explains the purpose of collecting NPC kernels.

Reverse engineering

The reverse engineering facility is where Agents create calibration templates (CT) from standard (T1) and prototype(T2P/T3P/T4P) items only. These templates are supposed to calibrate, or gauge the factory's production lines, to serve as the blueprint for the factory installation. Unfortunately, new production cycles gradually spoil the original construction method, causing a larger and larger material and time cost to create the selected item. If you want to restore the original time and material efficiency you need to use another CT. CT degradation can be monitored by the information area on the CT –lower values indicate higher waste!

A brand new calibration template requires two things: a piece of the chosen item (standard or prototype), and a decoder of the appropriate level. Standard items can be acquired through a variety of means, but NPC drops and the market are probably the most reliable sources. Prototype items, on the other hand, tend to be very difficult to acquire through any means other than constructing them yourself, as they tend to be very expensive to make.

Decoders can be a bit more challenging to acquire. The only way the industry of Perpetuum can guarantee the continuous replenishment of decoders, which are the key to breaking encoded alien technology, is to kill and loot NPCs. Enterprising combat specialists will occasionally put these on the market, but a relationship between combat and industrial specialists is probably more effective.

Each item has a designated decoding level displayed in its information panel, so you should check this level before attempting to create a calibration template of it. Once you have the decoder of the correct level and the item, just drag the icons and drop them on the marked boxes of the Reverse Engineering window. When both boxes are filled, you should see the parameters of the decoding, the required time, and the cost. If you use a decoder of higher level than the process requires, you will get bonuses to the CT’s values, and the time required to make the CT as well. The amount of this bonus is displayed in green brackets.

If you hold certain privileges, you can also use your corporation's account to pay for the process.

Maximum numbers of parallel Reverse Engineering runs can be increased by installing the correct extensions.

When the calibration template is ready, it will appear in your private storage.

Facility ratios

Additional parameters that affect your total efficiency.

Relation ratio - Improve this factor by reaching a good relationship with the owner of the facility.

Time ratio - You can increase the speed of your Reverse Engineering with the Basic/Advanced/Expert Intensive Reverse Engineering extensions.

Parallel Runs - You can increase the number of Reverse Engineering jobs to be run simultaneously with the Basic/Advanced/Expert Extensive Reverse Engineering extensions.
